Illinois Innovators: The Women Who Went West

The incredible history of Illinois’ Graduate School of Library and Information Science. Under the leadership of the school’s first dean, Katharine Sharp, GSLIS sent the first librarians to the frontier. As pioneers immigrated to the western towns of Wyoming, New Mexico and Oregon, graduates of Illinois set up libraries to educate the growing population. Often the only women for miles, these librarians created literacy programs with very little resources. Based on the dissertation of Elizabeth R. Cardman [PhD, GSLIS, UIUC, 1996] “Interior Landscapes: Personal Perspectives on Professional Lives: The First Generation of Librarians at the Illinois Library School, 1893-1907″ and the book “Cultural Crusaders: Women Librarians in the American West, 1900-1917″ [Univ of NM Press, 1994] by Joanne E. Problem gambling often is defined by whether harm is experienced by the gambler or others, rather than by the gambler’s behavior. Severe problem gambling may be diagnosed as clinical pathological gambling if the gambler meets certain criteria. Although the term gambling addiction is common in the recovery movement pathological gambling is considered to be an impulse control disorder and is therefore not considered by the American Psychological Association to be an addiction. Research by governments in Australia led to a universal definition for that country which appears to be the only research based definition not to use diagnostic criteria. Most other definitions of problem gambling can usually be simplified to any gambling that causes harm to the gambler or someone else in any way. However, these definitions are usually coupled with descriptions of the type of harm or the use of diagnostic criteria. According to DSM-IV, Pathological gambling is now defined as separate from a manic episode. Only when the gambling occurs independent of

en.wikipedia.org Histrionic personality disorder Classification and external resources ICD-10 F60.4 ICD-9 301.50 MeSH D006677 Histrionic personality disorder (HPD) is defined by the American Psychiatric Association as a personality disorder characterized by a pattern of excessive emotionality and attention-seeking, including an excessive need for approval and inappropriate seductiveness, usually beginning in early adulthood. These individuals are lively, dramatic, enthusiastic, and flirtatious. They may be inappropriately sexually provocative, express strong emotions with an impressionistic style, and be easily influenced by others. Associated features may include egocentricity, self-indulgence, continuous longing for appreciation, feelings that are easily hurt, and persistent manipulative behaviour to achieve own needs. Histrionic personality disorder shares a divergent history with conversion disorder and somatization disorder. Historically, they are linked to the ancient notion of hysteria, or “wandering womb.”[citation needed] (Note, however, that according to the Online Etymology Dictionary, the word “histrionic” derives not from the Greek hystera, but from the Latin histrionicus, “pertaining to an actor.”) Ancient Greeks thought that excessive emotionality in women was caused by a displaced uterus and sexual discontent. Christian ascetics during the Middle Ages blamed women’s mental problems on witchcraft, sexual hunger, moral weakness, and demonic possession. By

editorials against abortion?

Question by dancer29: editorials against abortion?
Where can I find educational editorial articles against abortion?

Best answer:

Answer by Steve
Sorry, abortion is good public policy. A pair of economists analyzed the source of the drop in crime in the USA in the late 1990s, and found it was due to the legalization of abortion in 1972. Essentially, unwanted children are more likely to become criminals.

The little-old-lady contingent doesn’t like to hear this sort of stone-cold truth, but they have a terrible track record anyway.
